Product Or Network Marketer 1st?So I’m all hyped. I have signed my network marketing application form, paid the join fee and I am sitting at a desk in a far off hotel listening to the trainer give his best, most heart felt training course. I am surrounded by other enthusiastic network marketers. We are all geared up and hungry for success.

It all sounds great. The training took half a day and the company allows us to go back to the training as many times as we want free of charge (they know it will take more than half a day to really know network marketing).

Leaving the training I was ready to shout from the roof tops all about how great our services are. How they will change everyone who uses them life. If you didn’t want to use our services, I’ll be cool with that, but I’ll think you strange, after all I will be saving you money, why wouldn’t you want to save money?

My mind-set was completely PRODUCT / SERVICE focused. I was a network marketer and this was the way I was gonna do my thing to get rich. The product came 1st, 2nd and 3rd….

Why Putting The Product / Service First Is Bad Business

Armed with my ‘hot list’ I’m making calls, and I’m sure the people on my list are going to use my services because;

  1. it’s me, they love / like me.
  2. I’ll be saving them money, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to save money.

I’m now making appointments, going to appointments and sealing the deal. My conversion rate was reasonably good, 5-1. I needed 12 signed customers in 90 days to be able to get my joining fee back. I worked out that I would have to talk to at least 60 people to be in the ‘get my money back’ position. << Sweet as I had 72 people on my ‘hot list’. I’m a popular guy, what can I say ;-)

I read everything there was to read on the services the company provided. I even read up on what the competitor was doing just so I’ll have the edge when I was face to face with a customer. I spent every waking moment on my business.

Long story short. I ended up doing a lot of hours, making very little progress (money), and I now felt defeated, with a head full of services information << Dull.

Then to make matters worse I would hear that someone I spoke to in the beginning, who told me NO had now signed up with someone else. Talk about a kick in the teeth.

I was so focused on the services we provided and letting the customer know how great they were that I left my personality at the door and sounded like a machine, spitting out fact after fact about the services. When I look back on my early network marketing days I cringe, they literally turn my blood cold.

Putting the product or services first only benefits the company by further branding it. If benefiting the company is what you want to do I suggest staying in your full time job. I became a network marketer because I wanted to live MY dreams, not to make a rich company richer whilst not get what I deserved back from it. << Crazy.

Why Putting Yourself First Is Great Business

The method I was taught wasn’t working for me so I went in search of methods that will. Along my travels I came across what I now seen as the network marketer’s bible, Magnetic Sponsoring. I lost out on my earlier deals because the customers only remembered me going on about the services, they didn’t remember who I was. So when they were ready to buy they Googled the company or one of the services and someone who was branding themselves got my sale :-(

I know you’re maybe thinking, “well isn’t that just selfish? And how can this really make you a successful network marketer, surely putting the products / services first will enable you to shift more units?”. Don’t worry, it took me a little while to get my head around it also. It was a completely new concept to me, but people using this technique were making the kinda money I want to make, the 6-7 figure earners. And they made it in a reasonable amount of time.

The more I researched the more success stories I’d find of people using Magnetic Sponsoring ideas to make it big in the industry. All of them couldn’t of just got lucky, there has to be some real truth in it.

I tried it out, and I have not / will not look back.

When you think about it, you are an independent representative for your company. This means that you are your own business who is affiliated with a company. If you put you first, by branding yourself, developing yourself and continually growing as a person, would it not stand to reason that your business will also grow, develop get branded?

Putting yourself first in your network marketing business means people will want to join you, buy from you, learn from you, grow with you. None of it has anything to do with your products or services. If the products you represent are useful to the person that is just a bonus to you. The fact is they are now on your list, reading your articles, checking your blog because they like, know and trust your brand, YOU.

Using this method you will make sales even without talking to people. I always say its good to speak and connect with your leads but making a sale or gaining a new rep with no conversation shows just how powerful branding yourself can be.

Another bonus to putting yourself first is you attract like-minded people to you… “What kind of people?” I hear you ask.

  • People who want what you have
  • People who have what you have
  • People who have what you want.

I can’t explain how the universe works or why this happens but when these people start coming into your life you will have a wealth of value at your feet which you can use to further develop yourself. Inspire the people who want what you have. Join forces with the people who have what you have. Learn all you can from the people who have what you want!  << Marvelous

Anything you learn when putting yourself first will always benefit you. It’s knowledge that you have gained to get you to where you currently are. This knowledge you can easily share with others to help them get to where you are.

On the other hand, imagine if your company decided to do away with one of their products / services. The knowledge you would of crammed into your brain about their products / services will now be redundant and useless like trigonometry.

The Network Marketer Comes First

By putting yourself first you get all you deserve. You are valuable, very valuable. Show your value, share it with others. Have them blowing up your email and phone wanting to work with you.
