Over the weekend one of my favorite online hangouts got attacked my some numb-nuts who are unproductively using their skills for evil.
You probably heard or were effected by the attack on BetterNetworker.com. Now you can fuss about why it happened but that would be a waste of your energy.
The bottom-line is everything / one that becomes successful gets attacked in one way or another. In a weird way this can be seen as a measure of your success.
There is always negative opportunist looking to rain havoc on a successful parade.
Google gets attacked. Facebook, Myspace, Twitter all these places get attacked simply because they are successful companies which have an unlimited amount of value within there inner sanctum.
You Will Be Attacked
I have been attacked in my short run with success. I have found people blatantly copying my material and putting their name to it.
You may of had this done to you also or worse. The point is the more successful you become the more people for whatever reason will want to disrupt your success.
This is an unfortunate part of life.
If life is a balance it stands to reason that if there is a collective of like-minded positive people doing great things, there has to be a collective of negative people doing bad things.
What I suggest to you is to not leave the playing field to try and change this fact. That would be a quicker way to becoming unsuccessful.
Just be prepared for it when and if it happens.
The team at BetterNetworker.com got to the root of the problem. Sorted it out and are mending the damage which was done. I am sure they are also putting in new measures to prevent the same from happening again.
They are back on there feet, they have brushed their shoulders off and they are still the best online community for network marketers on the planet.
They have not let the attack on their success stop them and neither should you.
Prepare For War
Being a leader and a successful business owner is going to present its fair share of internal challenges. We know and write about these internal challenges all the time, so we are more prepared for them.
It is the external challenges, attacks which most of us do not think about. As we don’t know what other people’s plan for us is going to be it is harder to prepare for it.
But there is a way.
You strengthen the things you can effect / change. You make your circle, your base, your home more resilient to attack.
If your base is secure, the people in it are confident with your leadership and your lines of communication are open and used regularly (both ways). Outside attacks will only dent your amour.
What attacks may come your way?
- Slander – people could write cra*py reviews about your, using your name for their gain. “Is Dwayne Huggins a con artist….etc”
- Lies – it is very easy to spread a lie about someone on the internet
- Theft – stealing your content and using it for their own gain
- Corruption – hacking into your accounts and taking what is rightful yours
- Fraud – cloning your details
All these and more are possible and come with your success.
STAY ON THE SUCCESS HIGHWAY
This post is not to take you off the success highway. I am firm believer in learning from my own and other peoples experiences.
I want you to be aware that success breeds hate. Prepare for it and if it happens to you, you will be able to whether the storm and effectively deal with it
Do not wait for it to happen to you to build your defenses. Build your defenses NOW.
Keep a close eye on your business. Monitor its progress and investigate anything which seems out of place.

Hey Dwayne,
Whenever someone achieves any level of success there is always some that is going to shake the tree to see how strong it is. Therefore, you have to develop yourself mentally to be prepare for anything.
Take a look at you…Dwayne, you write everyday strong post about things that matters. Now, this blog is a successful blog. People are gonna come around to shake your tree to see how strong you are. You continue to write a post everyday. Regardless, of whomever is using your material and not giving you credit.
The more you get mentally tough, the stronger the roots of the tree becomes. Nothing will be able to shake the tree. Not even a Hurricane.

It's unfortunate that success breeds jealousy from others.
That's a shame someone is stealing your content, but in the end, it will bite them in the rear end. People will start to figure out they are not the great leader they portray themselves to be.
It's unfortunate for you in the meantime that you have to deal with it. You are doing the right thing by standing strong! Very admirable!
If those would just put their talents to work in a positive way instead of a negative way, they too could reap the rewards of success.

I've had this experience before. I saw my material published by someone else taking full credit. It hasn't stopped me from doing what I love. You're a perfect example of this.

Success brings out the best and worst of people. Some people see something good and are jealous and will do anything to bring you down to their level. The more visible you become, the more scrutinized your every move will become. Something you just have to live with.

I guess that's all part of putting ourselves out there. The good part is that since we are branding ourselves, those who follow our work will recognize the truth and / or lies. Those who aren't are hearing more about us and maybe even becoming curious enough to come and find out for themselves.
If someone wants to believe a lie, without finding the truth, they are probably not someone we'd care to associate with anyway.
It is all really messed up and disappointing that any of the things you mentioned ever happen in the first place. And I don't mean to sound like they aren't terrible. They are. But you're right, it comes with the territory and we can do our best to protect ourselves against that.
One thing is to make sure our character speaks for itself and we will have our own team of defenders.

Hi Dwayne,
Yes, I have been attacked too. I've got some guy (probably a teen) who has been posting me extremely rude comments. At least he hasn't got the nous to hack my blog… But ever since I've banned him (using the plugin WP – Ban), he has been using my name and email address to post rude comments on the blogs that I share and interact with.
Watch out for this guy.

A strong character with good leadership and communication skills can weather any storm. I don't wish for attacks or challenges but I am prepared to deal with them when they appear. I hope more successful people are also

Dwayne there are some things we will never understand and one of these is what motivates some people to do the bizarre things they do. As you say success is often the target of attack so best to be prepared in the ways you suggest. What matters for our own soul health is how we respond to attacks. Great post, thank you.

Success always breeds jealously, it's an unfortunate fact of life.
People who can't or won't do what you do sometimes feel the need to attack you for it. (perhaps as a way to feel better about themselves?)
I just ignore it and move on, I have better things to do with my time

I was once told that life is a balance. You can't have good without bad and vise versa.
It is obvious to me that there is some / a lot of truth in this statement.
So my view is to do the good and be prepared for the bad.
That's the best way Matt.
Just be aware of the level of jealousy / bad-mindedness. It can spiral out of control and the next thing you know your whole site has been hacked!

They got me too with the Better Networker spam thing. I read over the post, and thought, and thought. Nothing. I was asking myself, “what the heck makes this spam?”
So I asked Jason Better and he told me that it was someones prank. Talk about relief. The post I got the spam message for didn't even promote a business or affiliate program, and didn't even have a link in it.
