The Power Of SEO Backlinks And How They Increase Your Website’s Page Rank

in How To

SEO Backlinks

SEO backlinking is a topic which I have been looking into and believe me its powerful stuff once you get your head around it. If you get backlinks from sites with a high page rank, this adds a considerable amount of ‘juice’ to your site. The more ‘juice’ your site gets the higher page rank you will achieve. Allow me to explain this further.

If you are looking for a free way to increase the flow of traffic to your website SEO backlinking is definitely one of the strategies which you should be using.

What Are SEO Backlinks?

Backlinks are external links which point back to your website. These external links are held on other websites. They can be in the form of your complete url http://dwaynehuggins.com/free-marketing-methods, or tidier methods such as anchor text or shortened urls http://bit.ly/8jcbcX.

Why Are Backlinks Important?

The search engine spiders use the amount of backlinks you have as part of their assessment of your website. The more backlinks you have the ‘more important / popular’ your site is deemed to be. This can lead to a rise in your page rank and also your sites global placing on the internet.

How Do I Get Other Sites To Put My Link On Their Site?

There are many ways in which you can do this, here are a some examples.

  1. Article marketing. Use the resources box to put in your backlinks
  2. Forum posting and commenting. Most forums allow their users to have a signature box, in this signature box you can put your links. You can also put your links in your comment or post. Do not spam the forum though, you will get kicked off.
  3. Blog commenting. When you comment on someone else’s blog you generally get asked to put your url email and name before you comment. You can also put a link in with the body of your actual comment. Be careful here again, as the blog owner may see this as spam, they can delete and block you from there site.
  4. Social media. On all social media sites you have the freedom to put at least 1 url. Most allow you to put as many as you want. Again don’t over do it as you’ll be seen as a shameful spammer. The content which you produce within social media also has areas where you can put your links.

There are many more ways to get your backlinks out there. I am sure you get the idea.

A little tip. The search engines will love you more if you are placing your links on content which is relevant to the page your link lands on. For example if you are on a forum topic about Goal Setting. It would be beneficial if your link was to point to a part of your site which was also about goal setting. (This isn’t essential, but every little bit helps).

How Do I Find Out My Page Rank And Global Internet Placing?

There are many ways to monitor the progress of your site. To get into the ‘nuts and bolts’ of how my site is doing I use Google Analytics. This shows me how my site is doing on a day by day basis. I also get to see where my traffic is coming from, how long they stayed, how many of my visitors are unique or returning visitors and loads more useful information.

To find out your page rank you can use prchecker.info. There are many other page ranking sites feel free to Google for them.

To find out your global internet placing you could use Alexa.com. Alexa breaks down where your site is placed globally and in which countries your site gets views and where your site is placed in regards to those countries.

What Will This Information Do For Me?

Generally you should be tracking all your activity online. This is the benefit online has over offline. You can see exactly which marketing methods are working best for you.

Your global placing is a good way to gage the amount of traffic your site is getting in comparison to other sites in your niche / market place. The more consistent traffic you get the higher your placing will be. Google is ranked number 1 and Facebook is currently sitting in the number 2 spot. Good luck moving them from there ;-)

Your page rank is your authority on the internet. Page ranking is scored from 0-10. If you have no page ranking your site will be over powered by sites which have higher page ranks. For example. If you were to do a post on a specific topic in your niche and you currently have 0 page ranking and another site with a page ranking of 5 does a post on the exact same specific topic, the higher page ranking site will appear higher than yours in the search engines and will stay on top of yours until your page rank increases. They have more authority than you.

SEO Backlink Golden Nugget Tip.

So we know backlinks are good because they help our sites look more important to the search engines which leads to higher page ranking which leads to more traffic. More traffic, more leads, more relationships to build on, more money. Wonderful.

Now a SEO backlink golden nugget tip is this. All backinks help, but some backlinks are more powerful. For example. If you got a backlink from Apple Mac’s website, that 1 backlink would be worth 100+ times more to your sites search engine credibility than backlinks from 50 zero page ranking 2 week old sites. You see Apple Mac is a well respected global business with a long serving website which has a page rank of 9. If you got a backlink from such a well respected website the search engines will assume you are a decent sort who rubs shoulders with only the best and they will treat your site accordingly and give it more ‘jucie’.

Now imagine you had ‘well respected’ backlinks from multiple high page ranking sites and these backlinks were created on a consistent basis. What could that do for your site and ultimately your business?

I Will Say This

I am no SEO genius. So I am sure there are people out there who can further explain SEO backlinking and I welcome all comments and opinions.

I do know that this method of backlink does work to boost a sites page ranking. Feel free to monitor my sites progress, you will see overtime my page ranking increasing. Indeed you can try it out for yourself. I would love to know how it works out for you.

See you at the top

Hey, Dwayne!
Thanks for explaining where those backlinking and PageRank fit in the overall SEO economy of a site.

Still, I want to make some consideration:

> PageRank shown in Google's PR Toolbar is not the real PR of a site; Real PR values are way bigger (as numerical figures) as compared with the 11-level grid of the Toolbar;

> PageRank is appointed to individual webpages and not to sites; a site's PR results from PR of individual webpages;

> having a higher PR doesn't necessarily place a webpage above one with lower PR value;

> PageRank is one of approximately 200 factors that Google uses to order their SERPs; so is not crucial for an SEO campaign

> multiple inbound links from the same domain only count as one backlink;

> a consistent, well organized internal linking strategy can be just as effective at passing link juice (authority) as getting back links from other sites; this statement is backed by the fact that each webpage that's created has an initial PageRank that can be supplemented (through additional inbound links) and passed between other pages from the same domain;
