Who is ready to put their hand up and admit that they are really in business to make as much money as possible?
As you can not see my hand, let me assure you it is up, up high.
I have no issues in admitting to you that I want to make as much money as possible so I can live the lifestyle I really want to live and beyond.
What about you?
The key to making as much money as possible is figuring out where you will get the money from.
Sounds easy enough right?
There are many marketing strategies, business incentives, clever ploys which you can use and make up to get money but the bottom-line is, money comes from people.
Money Vs People
If your interest is only in money then it will not come to you in the quantities you want it to.
For example.
Gimme A Pay Rise
You have worked at your job for 3 years. Over the 3 years you have become very efficient at you job.
You think because you have been working well for 3 year you deserve a pay rise. (High interest in money).
What have you really done extra to deserve a pay rise?
All you have done is the work you were employed to do at the rate you agreed to work for.
You are not doing more work than you was doing before when you accepted the job. So why should you be entitled to a pay rise?
Ok lets view this situation from a different point of view.
Same job, same 3 years.
This time you take an interest in your boss / managers and their roles within the company. (High interest in people).
From taking an interest in what they do you figure out a way to make THEIR job easier, more efficient, more rewarding which really works and they love you for it.
At this stage, you may not need to ask for a pay rise, they may give you one without you requesting it.
See the difference?
Money Comes From People.
PUT PEOPLE FIRST.
Have a GENUINE interest in them, their needs, their problems, their highs, their lows, their life and the money will follow.
One more example (I really want this message to hit home with you).
Two Sales Men
Two sales men armed with the exact same wonderful sales script go into the same shop to pitch their business.
Sales man 1 goes in in the morning and sticks to his wonderful sales script word for word.
When he is finished, he says his goodbyes and leaves leaving behind some documents with more information on and his contact details.
Sales man 2 goes into the same shop in the afternoon. He to sticks to his wonderful sales script. Once he finished his script he asks the owner of the shop if that was his red sports car parked outside the shop.
The look in the owners face went from boredom to interested in an instant.
“Yes that’s my car. I have had it about a month now, I love it. Do you know it can go from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds…..”
The owner speaks wholeheartedly and full of enthusiasm about his car for the next 20 minutes. They even went outside to take a closer look at the car.
After the car discussion was over, sales man 2 concluded the meeting, said his goodbyes and left. Leaving behind the same documents as sales man 1 and his contact details.
The owner of the shop wanted what the sales men were selling and decided to buy.
Which sales man do you think he brought from and why?

I could not agree with you more Dwayne!
Simple equation: Focus on People –> Lots of Money OR Focus on Money –> No Money & No Friends
Pretty simple in my opinion.
Great post Dwayne. Thank you for sharing it!

Great post, Dwayne! You make a great point with the story of the two salesmen!
Personal connections are so important and much more remembered than a sales pitch. It’s definitely something that we need to keep in mind. That is why large companies with sales campaigns often choose a spokesman or character to represent the company, it gives the consumer the feel of relating to someone.
(I hope this doesn’t end up as a double post, the computer had a blip!)
Hey Stacy
Personal connections are the name of the game. Without them we have nothing.
The second guy all the way Dwayne, a great lesson to be learned here.
We don’t do business with money so if you make money your primary goal you have a tough time doing business. Learn to be an awesome listener and take a genuine interest in people and watch how much money you can make.
Thanks for sharing!

Correct and correct Ryan
Taking a genuine interest in people also makes the work more interesting and
fun to do.
Hi Dwayne,
Two great stories giving examples of why people are the driving force behind getting money. It comes down to the relationships we build with people.
And in answer to your question, the second saleman all the way.
Tristram Lodge
Hey Tristram
Its people first all the way for me and for many successful business owners
that I know.
Correct. Sales man 2 made the sale, got the commission and went on to
generate future sales from the shop owner.
Spot on Dwayne! Be interested in people and build relationships then everything including money will follow.
Thanks for sharing your insights.
All the best,
Mavis Nong
You definately hit it home, Dwayne!
I loved the scenarios. I was ready to buy from salesman #2! ha ha. All jokes aside, it is so important to show the human side of you in all human interactions.
Thank you for the great lessons!
Darcy!
Hey Mavis
…and the more people we connect with the more money we have the chance to
make.
Hey Darcy
Sales man 2 knows his stuff. He found a subject which allowed the shop owner
to feel important. This made a more solid connection between him and sales
man 2 hence SM2 getting the sale.
Very good points, Dwayne.
We are in it for the money; money comes from people; take care of people and the money will come.
Ana Hoffman
What a wonderful example Dwayne!
I love the story of the two salesmen. Interest in people makes all the difference in the world!
Thanks for another great post!
Susanna
Nicely summed Ana, thanks
