In A Rush For Network Marketing Success?

It is the nature of the world we now live in to have everything NOW. The need for Network Marketing Success is no different. We want to be successful as soon as we sign on the dotted line and if we are not 97% of us get ‘cheesed off’ and will be looking for immediate success elsewhere.

Can we be blamed for thinking like this…erm…no, I wouldn’t say so. Everything around us has been developed to deliver what we need as soon as we need it.

Cars go faster. Microwaves nukes our food in a matter of seconds. Technology can have me in someone elses room on the other side of the world in a matter of seconds (Skype, Facebook, etc).

It stands to reason then that we want, need and simply must have network marketing success RIGHT NOW.

Bursting Your Bubble

Here I come with my big pin to burst your over inflated bubble.

It will take you 3-6 years to become successful in network marketing and that is providing you are working productively on your business daily.

Yes some people have done it quicker, but in all things there will be exceptions to the rule. On the same hand some people have taken a lot longer.

Where Did You Get The Figure From

Think of all the top network marketers. What does their story sound like?

Years of struggle and finding their way (3-6 years) then success! Feel free to research any of the top movers and shakers in our industry. You will see where I got the figure from.

What Does This Mean For You?

When I first got into network marketing, upon leaving the hotel meeting I was sure that I was going to be successful within one year. At the time even that seemed to long. Then the hardship of the industry set in and before I knew it a 8 months had gone by.

I had no success (not even close) and know idea how to really get it.

I hit the network marketing wall that all network marketers hit and made the decision to push on through it.

I listened, learned, observed and applied.

The realization that network marketing is not a quick money fix was a weight off my shoulders and it will be one off yours also. Knowing that people like Mike Dillard took 6 years to see success was comforting.

It showed me that if I work at my business diligently and consistently the success will come. 3-6 years is not a long time, especially with all the valuable information there is out there which can reduce that time even more.

If I was to stay in my job for a further 3-6 years I still would not make the money or have the lifestyle which network marketing can provide.

3-6 years to become successful is nothing in the bigger scheme of things.

A friend of mine has been playing the lottery for 10+ years and the most he has won at any one time is £60 (he spends £5 a week on the lottery, you do the math).

Network Marketing Success & The Promise

The promise is this. You can earn $10k – $20k – $50k+ a month from network marketing. You and I know of people who are currently living this life.

If I was to promise you that in 3-6 years you will definitely be earning these figures on a monthly basis what will you be willing to do to achieve your network marketing success?

Dwayne, it is a breath of fresh air to read this post. The myth of overnight success is one of the most destructive things in this industry. Believing it sets people up for failure or jumping from 1 opp to another. I struggled for about 6 years before finding what is right for me and understanding what I was doing wrong. I reckon that if you find the company and mentors that are right for you that time can be reduced. But still it is going to take a couple of years to begin to see results and maybe a couple more to move into the bigger league.

For 20 years I ran a traditional company & it took 3 years to break even and around 5 to reach a good profit level. So why should we expect MLM to be different. This industry offers something unique and special and so we should expect it to take time and work. No free lunch.

Hey Charlie

Welcome back.
Thank you for sharing some of your story (and proving my numbers to be about right).

There is nothing wrong with taking time to build a successful company. The lesson you learn along the way become extremely valuable.

There is definitely no free lunch on the road to success.

Hey Dwayne,

Your big bubble bursting pin made me smile. It's true, this takes time.

My sister introduced me to my company almost 2 years ago now. When we both realized we wanted more out of it and started looking at attraction marketing, I jumped in with both feet. When she heard how long it can take to build it, she got discouraged and nearly stopped.

It's better to know what you're getting into than to keep plugging away and wonder why you're not rolling in the cash the first month.

Great post!

Hi Dwayne,

The “microwave results” society that we live in these days seems to believe that there is only one way and that is – instant! It does not happen in this industry because you have to grow until you have grown enough. How long will that take? Probably about 6 years as you say but then how long is a piece of string? If this is where you are meant to be, you will grow until you are ready. Great post.

Hey Dwayne,
You are definitely putting things in perspective for people. Any business, especially in this industry, is a long term commitment. However, the majority of marketers in the industry push becoming an overnight success and that is why we get a bad name. I've been talking back and forth with Jimmy Davis quite a bit lately and he has been telling me that it's amazing how people think there is a magic button that makes you money automatically. The success he has came in the span of 6 months, but what people don't see is the 10 years prior to that where there was a ton of struggling and soul searching going on.

Great stuff,
Eric McMillan

Hey Dwayne,

That is the problem, people want it right now. Most of them are not willing to do what it takes to get mentally or physically prepared for the wealth you can obtain from Network Marketing. It takes work and faith that you will receive the benefits of owning a successful business.

Chat with you later…

Hey Dwayne,

I love the picture. I'm a massive F1 fan. Back to the topic… I was the same. The trouble is the business model seems so simple and we think it will be a cinch. We need to take responsibility and get rid of this lottery mentality. In reality, 3 – 6 years is a short period of time. Better that than 40+ years at the office.

Thanks mate,
Wayne

Dwayne, insightful as usual. I love the lotto comment! I was talking to a prospect a few months ago who said he couldn't afford the $50 per month to join my business. When we started talking, the subject of lotto came up. I asked him how much he spent each week on lotto tickets. $20 per week! I said “There's your $50 per month!” but he didn't get it nor did he like the idea of giving up part of his lotto buying budget for a business. So I actually didn't really want him on board anyway if he was just searching for a quick fix solution to his $$ issues.

Hi Dwayne,

You hit the nail on the head with this post! Everyone wants instant gratification, but it takes time to build your business, just like a traditional brick and mortar business.

It's a shame MLM gets a bad rap due to the claims of overnight success, and when it doesn't happen, people get the idea that it doesn't work.

Great Job!

Hey Dwayne,

That time frame sounds very realistic, too many people are pushing for “6 months to success”, only to get burnt out and demotivated.

3-6 years, in my opinion, is really not too long for true success.

Thanks for this post.

Hey Dwayne,

3 to 6 months like Wayne said does sound realistic, but in reality its all about how hard you work, how much you dedicate yourself, and how fast you digest the necessary knowledge to be successful in this industry.

Oh yeah Dwayne check out my avatar, Thanks for the tip!

This is definitely an honest, thought-provoking post, Dwayne.

Success means different things to different people. Some are happy with a couple hundred dollars or so extra a month. Still others, like myself, won't stop until we make millions.

Having said that, I feel successful everyday I get up and put more productive work into my own business… A business that will provide for me and my family for years to come.

The time frame isn't as important as the commitment. I know that as long as I keep pushing forward, the millions will come soon enough.

Have a great trip to Greece!

Hey Dwayne,

I left a message earlier, don't know what happened.

I also like the lotto example. I grew up in New York. Once in
awhile I would have to tag along with my uncle. We would
always end up at OTB. Off Track Betting was always a place
I would remember the same people. Like the lotto, they would
spend 100 and jump for joy when they made 50, over and over.

Just work at it hard and YOU will do it!!

I won't stop until I make it BIG!!

Hey Dwayne,

Your straightforward, upfront approach is what we need. You're right, overnight success just doesn't exist. No matter what people think.

Although, like you stated, that's what everyone wants. They want that instant gratification. If we look back on any successful person, they got there as a result of many failures, persistent action and time.

There's no overnight success in there.

Great post Dwayne. :)

Hey Dwayne,

It takes a long time to become the person you need to be in order to be successful, that's what people seem to miss.

Well worth the effort though, as i'm sure everyone here will agree :)

Thanks for putting this out there, Dwayne! People need to know this. There is 'instant pudding' but no instant success. Even so called overnight successes took a long time to happen. It took me 6 years before I saw success. I was at the point of quitting the industry when it finally happened.

Dwayne Huggins May 13, 2010 at 06:07

Hey Marcus

Instant is the mis-guided way of the people. Its sad really as this is how society wants us to be.
Success is what we grow into over time. We achieve overall success by accomplishing little successes along the way as long as that is what we are working for.

Hey Eric

The journey w go on when we start in NM is much the same as most people's. I thought I was gonna be rich in 1 year from signing on the dotted line, but that was not the case.
It really is refreshing to hear that it takes time. I feel this kind of information needs to be up-front and early on a persons NM journey. It may just solve a lot of “jumping ship” issues.

Hey Josh

I don't think people are scared of the work. I think they don't like being told it is easier than it is. So when reality hits, they are unprepared for the road ahead.

I love F1 also Wayne. Speed, speed and more speed.

If explained properly in the first place I don't think we will be losing so many newbies from the NM industry

Hey Ross

It is so weird the people who you come across and the way they think.

I get a lot of people saying to me they will love to make some more money on the side but when I explain the them that it is very possible and show then proof of what I am doing, they still don't see it, even though it is right in-front their eyes. Weird!

Hey Twila

Business as a whole gets a bad rap. Most new business don't last the distance as people are prepared to grow themselves to make it happen. In fact they don't know that they need to grow themselves and that is where the problem is.

When I left school is was determined not to do anymore study. How far do you think that got me? NOWHERE

Yet this is exactly what most people think. Hence the misunderstanding of
1. think of a business
2. set up business
3. work in business
4. success in 6 months

RUBBISH!

Dwayne Huggins May 13, 2010 at 06:29

Hey Wayne

The 6 months hype thing never works.

3-6 even 10 years will still set you up for a better lifestyle than the traditional way of working

Dwayne Huggins May 13, 2010 at 06:32

Hey Shawn

Good to SEE you.

Hard work, focus, determination, growth and an unshakable character is what is required to succeed. With these characteristics by your side success is guaranteed, how long will it take is up to you.

Reply

Dwayne Huggins May 13, 2010 at 06:34

Hey Derek

The success, motivation cycle. A great thing to be on.
It is hard to see who this works in the beginning as you have to actually be working at your business for it to happen.
Do a something today, see the success of it tomorrow, get more motivated to do more tomorrow, see more success etc.

If we keep achieving little daily successes the big success day will come.

Great lil story

Dwayne Huggins May 13, 2010 at 06:37

When people listen to the super successful they only hear the glory and not the long journey it took to get there. The glory is easy to tell and great to portray, but the real value is in the persons journey to success, that is where you will find all the golden nuggets of information and inspiration!

Hey Dwayne, I can't agree more with this post. The expectations of (some) new people coming into the industry is not realistic. Possibly due to factors such as over hyped opportunities and their own desires to make it big quick. I think your post helps to bring some reality to what should be expected.

Thanks for sharing.
