[Note] Some niches are more competitive than others. Don’t let this put you off. With the right keywords and consistent work you can dominate your chosen niche.

Domain Name

Once you have your blog idea and you know which niche it is aimed at you now need to sort out your domain name.

Your domain name should reflect what your blog is all about. Stay away from any domain names which may cause confusion e.g. www.how-2-make-a-blog .com. It may sound good, but it is very easy to get wrong when someone is typing into their browser.

Hosting

A self hosted blog is the only way to really maximize the amount of money you can make from your blog.

You own it and fully control it.

Installing Your Blog

WordPress has been proven to be the best platform upon which to build a blog.

They have the most plug-ins, the best support and there are so many WordPress gurus all over the internet where you can pick up some great tips from.
Don’t make life hard for yourself by going for lesser blogging platfiorms.

Customizing Your Blog

To get your blog to look how you want it to look without having to become a web-building wiz kid you will need a Theme.

There are free themes and themes which you have to pay for.

With free themes you are limited with how creative you can be. Also your SEO work may be hindered.

With Premium themes you can get as creative as your heart desires and they have SEO friendly stuff built in so you don’t have to worry about it to much.

Adding Pages To Your Blog

Your blog should be clear as to what it all about from the very beginning. Don’t leave people guessing what it is your blogging about.

Add some pages to your navigation bar which will make it obvious to anyone who lands on your blog what your blog is all about.

Then of course do an “About” page. Your About page can be about you and why you are blogging about your chosen niche. Or it can be all about your niche. Or both.

Optimizing Your Blog For SEO

By getting a premium theme you are already cutting your SEO optimization in half.

The other half is all about choosing the right keywords for your blog content and organizing the structure of your blog in an SEO way.

Monetizing Your Blog

Set your blog up to make money from day one. You can never tell when your blog is going to get popular. Within the first week of my blog going live I was collecting leads and I made money.

Get your opt-in forms ready and a product which you can sell and make money from. Make sure to product suits the people in your niche.

Publishing Content

Content is king with a blog. The more keyword rich content you have, the more content of yours the search engines will be able to return in their search results.

Search engines also love blogs which have regular, fresh content on it. If they see that you are feeding your blog regularly they will send their bots to index your blog more often. The quicker your content is indexed the quicker it will show up in the search results.

Driving Traffic

Traffic. The blood line to your blog. The more traffic you get passing by the more money you have the potential to make.

Now, not just any traffic will do. You want traffic which is actively looking for what you have to offer.

Highly targeted traffic will make the difference between you providing a free service to uninterested people to making a lot of money from people who are biting your arm off to get what you have to offer.

Converting Traffic

Knowing what to do with the traffic you get is what makes the sale.

If your not asking your readers to buy, they wont buy. If you don’t have any thing of  value to trade for their contact details, they wont give you them.

Making Money

Once you have all the above in place and you commit to making your blog a success, you will make money. Some will make it quicker than others, some will make more than others. But who cares about them?
