How To Discover The Expert In You

in Personal Development

Albert Einstein - A Genius

Expert – a person who has special skill or knowledge in some particular field.

You do not have to be a genius or some new age Einstein to be considered and expert. You just need to have a special skill (which we all have) or knowledge in a particular field (which we can all get).

So how do you discover the expert in you?

It is easier than you think.

Lets look at me for a second here. This blog started November 4 2009. Prior to that I had written a few articles and done a handful of videos. Nothing major, in-fact I don’t think I got a single lead from any of it.

Now less than a year on I can give you valuable knowledge on how to set-up and have a successful marketing blog.

I can class myself as an expert in blogging. Why?

Because I have a lot of knowledge about blogging.

Yes there are better bloggers than me. So what?

There are more people who want to blog or who are struggling with their blog who would like the information that I can give them.

They know less than me!

And that is just one thing. I am also an expert in internet marketing and making money online.

Same rules apply. Yes there are more experience, “better” internet marketers than me, but there are many more people who want to make money online who know much less than me. So to them I am their expert.

Get it?

Good.

How To Discover The Expert In You

Start looking at all the things you like doing. Things that you do on a daily bases. Things you may do at your job. Whatever it is I can guarantee you that you have a lot of knowledge in it, because you do it all the time. Therefore making you an expert in it.

Can any of the things you have thought of be of use to anyone else?

An example.

A friend of mine was a receptionist of a huge global recruitment agency based here in the UK. Everyday she had to welcome HR Managers from other businesses and wanna be employees.

What see noticed was that the wanna employees were always nervous and on edge. She developed a way to make them feel relaxed, welcomed and at ease before their interviews.

Many of the wanna be employees used to comment on how friendly, welcoming and comforting the reception was.

Long story short, she went on to become the companies global trainer on how to welcome their visitors.

She now earns five times more than she used to as the companies “welcoming trainer”. She also gets to travel around the world training people on the art of welcoming a visitor.

(Apparently big companies pay big money for this)

She is now an expert in her field and she is making good money from it!

Don’t Get Caught Up With Courses

The problem I used to have was I would get a course, read it, think that was a great course, I could never produce content like that.

And so because I thought I couldn’t, I didn’t.

I was stuck on how I was going to portray myself as an expert.

It was only when I stopped comparing myself to others, took a long hard look at what I had learned and what I have to offer that I began to produce valuable content.

Many people now see me as an expert because I have helped them solve their problems and put money into their bank accounts.

You to can be seen like this!

Just figure out what you can do better than the majority who want to know how to do what you can do.

Don’t compare yourself to those who you consider experts. Be the expert for others.

The Chain Effect

Ok, so what about the guys who are experts in many fields?

Here is how I see it.

When you find what it is you can be an expert in, you go to town with it. I mean really learn it.

Show your skills in every form possible and get it out to as many places as possible.

People will begin to know you as the “goto” person for your particular field of expertise.

When people come, so does the money!

When you are making enough money, you should have more time. With this time you can learn more things which you can become an expert in.

You rinse and repeat the same process you did with your first field of expertise.

Now you are an expert in many fields.

This brings more people to your doors which puts more money in your accounts.

Have You Discovered Your Inner Expert Yet?

Let me know what you can be an expert in. I know most of you are experts already, but you may not realize it yet.

I like this Dwayne, an inspiring post for people who seek that little extra push.

Being an expert comes with acquiring knowledge and more importantly putting it into action. I too hesitated to act when reading expert manuals. How I could ever do what they were doing? I knew nothing!

I figured out that by acting, you can become an expert. Many people with expert levels of knowledge sit on the sidelines and never establish themselves an authority for fear of being criticized or failing.

As for me I've learned that my motivational quotes are fairly popular. An expert motivator?

One thing about being an expert is that you need to get your hands dirty. You need to get out there and do it, make mistakes, learn from those mistakes and find solutions to those mistakes.

For example, I love to BBQ and I now know not to stand over the grill when lighting the coals, my eyebrows have never been the same :)

You're absolutely right Dwayne.

Everyone has their own genius. And how you defined what this means, will no doubt help people realize they do have something special to offer.

I don't know if you intended this to be a motivational post, but it sure was for me. Thanks buddy.

Hey Dwayne,

It all falls down to how strong the mindset is. In other words…confidence!

Hi Dwayne,

I really liked this article. Marketing your business online can seem a bit intimidating at first but, you're right. Anyone can become an expert if they choose to learn and share what they learn with others.

Hope you have a great day!

Great tips here Dwyane! It's important to remember that one will always know more than most of those that started their businesses after you and that's who you need to become an expert to.

Hey Dwayne,

Great article mate. Really good tips on helping people get over their own self limiting beliefs. As you said, there are always going to be people who know more about a particular area than you, at the same time, there's always going to be people who know less. Don't worry about the guys who know a lot more, just help those who don't know as much – a great way to build your credibility.

Have an awesome day,
Wayne

Thats a real problem I had back in the day, looking at other people's stuff and comparing myself to them. After making a choice to just be Me, I realized that people with less skill than I had, was succeeding online. So forget about the rest, pretend like its only You against You and beat You, by providing what You have.

Monster point Dwayne,
Jonathan

“I'm An Expert. Hear Me Roar.” … I love it!!

You are indeed an expert to me. I come away with a ton of value and inspiration every time I visit your blog. And you are absolutely correct, we shouldn't compare ourselves to anybody. Because each of us is unique with unique abilities nobody else has.

Great stuff! Thanks for sharing it!

That's all it takes. By reading a few books on a topic you will already know more than most who didn't read the books!

This little tip is like the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Serve those who know less than you and don't compare yourself to those who know more as they are the ones who are helping you!

Hi Dwayne,

The way I see it, there are only two, maybe three people you should ever compare yourself with.

You, last year, you, next year, and maybe, just maybe you, ten years from now.

Great Post,

Mike
